Mapping the unborn baby’s brain in 3D

30 November 2009

A study that will help to produce better MRI scans of babies in the womb that was co-funded by Action Medical Research has been covered on BBC Online. Led by Professor Mary Rutherford, this research aims to provide superior quality images of babies’ brains by overcoming the problem of them moving during scans  This could improve doctors’ ability to diagnose potential problems earlier. There is some fantastic footage.

Actress Kym Marsh highlights need for more research into premature birth

10 November 2009

Action Medical Research is heartened to see Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh highlighting the urgent need for more research into preventing premature birth on ITV’s Tonight: Born Too Soon programme (shown on Monday 9 November).

This is an issue our charity is dedicated to tackling and our special appeal, Touching Tiny Lives, funds vital research to try and ensure that all babies, especially babies born prematurely, have the best possible start in life.  So far this appeal has raised more than £4m to fund more than 40 high-quality medical research projects into premature birth, pregnancy complications, and the care of sick and vulnerable babies. But there is still so much work to do.
